Meena Kumari whose real name is Mahjabeen Bano was born on 1st august C. She is regarded as a prolific actress, singer, and poet of her age. She used to write under pseudonym Naaz. She is known as Tragedy Queen and Cinderella of Indian Cinema. Her notable films include Sahib, Bibi Aur Ghulam, Parineeta, Pakeezah, Foot Path, Dil Apna Aur Preet Pareai, Dil Ek Mandir, Baiju Bwra, Kajaal and many more. She created a record by winning all the Filmfare nomination for Sahib, Bibi Aur Ghulam. She won Filmfare award for her debut film Baiju Bawra and went on to win four consecutive awards. She won her last Best Actress award for her last movie Kajaal. She died of liver cirrhosis on 31st March 1972.
